To my valued patients/dental family,
I’ve tried to keep this short, as you know I tend to be a bit chatty. This letter is to inform you that shortly I will begin the process of retiring from the practice of dentistry. I have truly enjoyed our relationships and caring for you and your families. It has been an honor to have served you for the past 25+ years. I look forward to my next stage of life; spending more time with my family, exercising a lot more, likely some dental training volunteering and delving into hobbies. I look back with fondness and pride, to my years here with you and all that we have accomplished together. Thank you for your kindness, your loyalty, and your trust.
To my newer patients, I’m sorry we did not get to spend more time together, but certainly still very much appreciate your patronage.
Finding an outstanding professional to assume my position in this dental family we have created has been an important, comprehensive process. After diligently searching, I am happy to announce that Dr. Derek Wong will be stepping into my position and will be caring for your dental needs moving forward. Dr. Wong has exceptional clinical skills and wonderful chair-side manner. He cares deeply about his work and his patients. He has run his own dental practice here in San Mateo for the last 10+ years, so rest assured, he’s no rookie. He’s a lover of music and dogs, so you know he’s a good guy! I know Dr. Wong is committed to continuing the honest and relaxed mojo I have fostered over the years, and I highly encourage you and your family to continue your dental treatment under his excellent care.

Regarding administration: Maria will also be entering her very well-deserved retirement. She has been working tirelessly to help ensure as smooth a transition as is possible. I cannot thank Maria enough for her years of dedication, hard work, honesty. . . the list goes on and on.
Maria is very grateful for the wonderful relationships she has had with you and will miss all the great conversations, stories, and family updates you all shared with her over nearly 3 decades. While sad to see this chapter end, she is very much looking forward to exploring all her interests that have been waiting their turn in her life.
Dr. Wong’s existing and experienced staff will be taking over the administration of the practice. You are in good hands :)
Regarding staff: our hygienist Virginia will continue to provide top notch, friendly care as usual. Jana will be relocating north to the Seattle-Tacoma area to achieve her life goals. My assistant Janet will be taking time off work and will assess her desires for further work in the dental field. I was very fortunate to have had such a solid, friendly, cohesive team and thank them for all their support.
Dental benefit/insurance wise, Dr. Wong will continue to be associated with our current roster of dental insurance companies.
I am committed to ensuring a smooth change over and will be working directly with Dr. Wong, his team and our staff to make that happen in the coming months. I will be seeing patients on a joyously reduced schedule for a period of time. Again, I must thank each of you for the opportunity to be your dentist and for your past and present support.
